Xiaomi Mi9 Global Version Unboxing & Review

Well the Mi Bunny once again dropped a brand new Mi9 Global Version at my doorsteps for me to review. So what's in it and what are the key points for the phone? Read on to find out more..

First off this is the global version distinguished by the obvious red Global Version on the side of the box so you know it has the global MIUI ROM installed which comes with google services and apps

The seashell rainbow coloured box made it unique from the old full Black/White or Brown versions of Xiaomi Phone box. This is one of the box I would really keep to store my stuffs

Next up. What's in the box other than the phone? The User Manual and Warranty Booklet, sim tray pin and 3.5mm jack to USB C adapter, 2/3 pin plug depending on region, USB C Cable and a Dark coloured rubber phone casing so you get the max protection out of the box

First look on the phone, the piano black version, elegant on it's own. The Shiny black finish with curved sides adds on to the classy look and feel of the phone

Fits perfectly on the palm

The AI Triple camera lens at the back of the phone with one of the lens being the all new Ultra Wide Angle lens with the flash just under it. The main lens spotting the same pearl rainbow finish just like the box

At the bottom is the speakers and the USB C port with the prominent silver Mi Logo and information on the back case. Testing the audio quality, I would say this is superb in the sense that my family members thought I was playing music from my laptop. This is something they brought forward from the Mi8 which I really like, the smooth and crisp audio. And oh did I mention it supports a fast wireless charging? Though the wireless charger sells separately.

My Favourite ROM as one of the Super Moderators on the MIUI forums, the Mi9 comes preinstalled with the MIUI 10. The phone also spots a much better and faster on screen fingerprint sensor compared to the Mi 8 that I am using

It runs on the latest Android Pie powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 855 Octa-core 2.84GHz processor with 6GB RAM and 128GB ROM

Now let's get to the picture section as this is one of the main buying points for this phone. In terms of colour and output, this seems to show the colours in clarity

Sharp and crisp photo that comes along with the AI function along with HDR

So what does it mean with the AI function? It detects what picture and conditions you are taking your picture and automatically sets it to give the best effect and colours

Let's move to the next test, 48MP for extra clarity on your picture. Taken at night so you could really see the improvement over the predecessors and also competitions

Normal mode without AI or HDR enabled

Night with AI and HDR enabled vs normal mode as above. It brings out the colours of the Skyline even in the dark adding more vibrant colours to it

Finally the all New Ultra Wide Angle mode so you can see the bigger picture!

So what's my final verdict? I would say this would be a buy for me as my interest is in photography and blogging. the faster processors helps renders my pictures on the fly for posting. The 48MP for clarity, Ultra Wide for he larger picture which I would say is a real good extra feature. The improvement of the AI function makes it less of a hassle for me where I could just snap and go without worries of not capturing the moments that matters the most to me. Pair that with the wireless charging and elegant looks, this is definitely the phone to buy for first half of 2019.

Price? RM1699 for 64GB ROM+6GB RAM version and only RM1999 for 128GB ROM+6GB RAM variant!!!
